Founded in 2004, Vembu Technologies is a leader in providing cost effective, business focused online backup software solutions for ISPs, MSPs, VARs and Managed Hosting Providers. Vembu’s flagship product, StoreGrid, powers the online backup services of approximately 1000 service providers across the world.

Vembu has won many awards and has been recognized by various leading industry bodies. The roster of achievements includes the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 award and making it to the Red Herring 100 list of innovative companies. Vembu has regularly been featured on CRN's annual Emerging Vendors list, was a finalist in the VAR Business Tech Innovator awards and was also a finalist for the Windows IT Pro award for Interoperability. Vembu is also actively involved with various industry bodies including MSP Partners & MSP Mentor.

Management Team

Sekar (Sekar Vembu - CEO)

Sekar is a serial entrepreneur with over 11 years of experience in the IT industry. He was a Co Founder, the CTO and a Business Unit head for AdventNet , a leading player in the network management domain, albeit better known these days for the Zoho suite of products. He had helped AdventNet grow to a 300 people organization without raising any venture capital funding. After Adventnet, he founded SwissSQL, a database migration solution that helps save over 90% of the migration effort and over 80% of the costs typically involved in database migration projects; SwissSQL was later acquired by Adventnet in 2004. Thereafter, Sekar founded Vembu Technologies and has played the pivotal role in growing Vembu to its current position.

Sekar holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a masters degree in Operations Research – both from IIT-Madras.

An avid sportsman, Sekar is particularly passionate about racquet games and cricket. A discerning foodie, Sekar can put most food critics to shame with his eye (rather taste) for detail! With an opinion on virtually anything under the sun, he (aptly) plans to title his 'yet to be started' personal blog “I too have an opinion”

Lux (Lakshmanan Narayan, President)

With 10 years of advertising, media and assorted marketing experience under his belt, Lux decided to transfer his learning over the last decade to the software industry – and came on board Vembu as a co-founder in 2005. Before Vembu, he was the Client Services Director at Initiative Media, Middle East, a media planning and buying company that is a part of the Interpublic Group of Companies. He also worked with other group companies like Lowe & Partners where he founded and managed Linteractive, an interactive communication arm of the agency. At Interpublic, Lux worked on brands of companies like HSBC, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, 3Com and Emirates Airlines. Prior to moving to the Middle East, he had co-founded Alliance Media & Entertainment, a media/entertainment consultancy in India.

A graduate of IIT-Madras with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, he also holds an MBA from IIM-Calcutta.

Lux has diverse interests from scuba diving and off road driving to alternative health and offbeat activities for kids. He is perpetually trying to lose weight and is currently learning Isshinryu karate with his sons; he hopes to get his black belt before they get theirs! Lux sporadically writes about his passions – in the Vembu Blog and his personal blog, luxamusa.

Jay (Jayavasanthan J, Director of Technology)

Jay has been with Vembu Technologies since 2005 and is intimately familiar with the inner workings of StoreGrid. Prior to joining Vembu, Jay was with Adventnet where he worked on various products and diverse technologies in the 'Network Management' domain. Currently, Jay leads the R&D team at Vembu Tech that's working on the 'next generation' of StoreGrid & related storage solutions.

Jay completed his Engineering from Madras University with a specialization in Electronics & Communication Engineering.

An avid consumer of various genres of music & cinema, he also enjoys playing Cricket, Table Tennis & various board games - basically anything that minimizes calorific burn! His vast repertoire of unpublicized talents include limbo & break dancing.

Sathish (Sathish Subramaniam, Director of Engineering)

Sathish Joined Vembu Technologies in 2007 after working for large corporate giants like Nortel and Verizon. Prior to joining Vembu, he was with Verizon Data Services both in India and in the USA, wherein he'd worked primarily on Speech Recognition based applications for the Telecom Industry and on varied applications for handheld wireless devices.

Sathish completed his Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT, Madras and thereafter obtained his Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering (yes, Petroleum) from The University of Texas, Austin. He went on to complete a second Masters in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Distributed Systems.

He is the resident authority on gully cricket and derives joy from challenging his son to a game of 'living room hockey'. Needless to say, his wife is relieved when he's at work!
